Notebooks

A report that stays current and lands as a PDF

A notebook is a document made of cells: text, queries, dataset views, flow results. It is not Jupyter and has no kernel: every cell reads something Muvia already knows how to run.

Illustrative example

Write the report once, read it on today's data every time

  • Typed cells

Markdown text, query, dataset view, flow result. You lay them out in rows of one, two or three columns.

  • Text that knows the numbers

Put placeholders in the text, such as the period being read: when the notebook is read they become the real values, written for the reader.

  • Honest about missing data

If a cell covers only part of the period, or reads a stale table, it says so beside the number instead of giving it as whole.

  • As a PDF, on a schedule

The delivery prints the notebook to PDF and emails it. By default every Monday at 06:00; switched off, it runs only on «Run now».

From document to PDF

  1. 01

    Compose

Add cells one after another and move them around. Athena can propose a cell, which you accept or discard.

  2. 02

    Check the preview

Read the notebook over the period you choose before handing it to anyone.

  3. 03

    Schedule the delivery

Set when to print and who receives it. Runs stay listed with their outcome.

In detail

Permissions
Reading a notebook needs the report read permission, changing it the edit one.
Not

Frequently asked questions

No. It is a document of typed cells, with no kernel. The calculation lives in the queries and in the flows' functions, which the notebook reads.
